2 Nephi 31-33 “Press Forward with a Steadfastness in Christ"

Quote by Marion G. Romney ~ “I remember reading...with one of my lads when he was very young. On one occasion I lay in the lower bunk and he in the upper bunk. We were each reading aloud alternate paragraphs of those last three marvelous chapters of Second Nephi. I heard his voice breaking and thought he had a cold, but he went on to the end of the three chapters. As we finished, he said to me, ‘Daddy, do you ever cry when you read the Book of Mormon?’ ‘Yes, son,’ I answered. ‘Sometimes the Spirit of the Lord so witnesses to me that the Book of Mormon is true that I do cry.’ ‘Well,’ he said, ‘that is what happened to me tonight.’” (CR, April 1949)

Michelle Nephi explains so crystal clear about the Savior’s example of obedience to the laws and ordinances of the gospel. He intently lays out faith repentance, baptism and the Holy Ghost. After his teaching, I sense his disappointment in the people who don’t quite get it. His teaching of the Holy Ghost and speaking with the tongue of angels is marvelous! His last three words are a testimony of how he lived his entire life…”I must obey.”

  1. "I find that when I get casual in my relationships with divinity and when it seems that no divine ear is listening and no divine voice is speaking, that I am far, far away. If I immerse myself in the scriptures, the distance narrows and the spirituality returns."
    --President Spencer W. Kimball

That quote was given in the Saturday afternoon session of General Conference and I just read it in my study guide. Even President Kimball recognized that his relationships with divinity at times tended towards casual. The answer is in the scriptures! President Howard W. Hunter said, "It is better to have a set amount of time to give scriptural study each day than to have a set amount of chapters to read." I hope we can all feel the distance narrow between each of us and our Father in Heaven as we immerse ourselves in the scriptures - dive in!
